FIDA Ghana President Charts New Direction for Women’s Rights Advocacy

Accra, Ghana – The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA Ghana) on Wednesday, 10th December 2025, commemorated its 40th anniversary, celebrating four decades of sustained legal advocacy, litigation, education, and community outreach dedicated to the protection of women and children across the country.

Addressing the gathering in Accra, FIDA Ghana President, Gloria Ofori-Boadu, reflected on the organization’s evolution from a small collective of pioneering women lawyers in 1985 into a respected national institution influencing legal, social, and policy reforms in Ghana.

She noted that FIDA Ghana’s work now cuts across advocacy, litigation, legal education, community engagement, and policy dialogue, stressing that emerging issues such as cyber-violence, online exploitation, and growing economic vulnerabilities demand innovative and forward-looking approaches.

Looking ahead, Ofori-Boadu outlined key priorities for the organization, including the expansion of legal aid services through digital platforms, mentorship and capacity building for young women lawyers to nurture the next generation of female legal leaders, and the strengthening of advocacy efforts to play a more influential role in national and continental conversations on women’s rights.

She expressed appreciation to FIDA Ghana’s long-standing partners, notably the Ghana Bar Association, UNFPA, and UNICEF, for their continued support. The President reaffirmed FIDA Ghana’s vision of a society where access to legal aid is universal and every woman is protected by both the law and social institutions.
