FIDA Ghana Reaches Madina Market with a Powerful Community Education Drive — Part of 40 Years of Dedicated Legal Aid

As part of FIDA-Ghana’s 40th anniversary celebrations and in alignment with the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, FIDA Ghana conducted an impactful outreach program at Madina Market today, December 4th.

The exercise focused on educating the public about the realities of GBV, reporting mechanisms, and the various forms of marriage recognized under Ghanaian law. Our team engaged traders, transport operators, market women, head porters, youth groups, and community members—providing simplified legal information, answering questions, and directing individuals to support services available to survivors.

We also emphasized the importance of community support systems, the role of the Domestic Violence Act, and the need for stronger collaboration between citizens, traditional leaders, and state agencies to ensure that survivors are protected, believed, and supported at every stage of their journey.

In addition, the outreach highlighted the need for early reporting, the dangers of silence, and the responsibility we all share in creating safe homes, workplaces, and communities. We encouraged everyone — especially men — to take an active stand in preventing abuse, speaking up when they witness violence, and supporting survivors without judgment.

FIDA Ghana remains committed to promoting access to justice, strengthening community awareness, and building a Ghana where every person is safe, protected, and empowered. As we mark 40 years of serving women, children, and vulnerable groups, we reaffirm our mission to bring legal aid closer to the people, one community at a time.

Together, let’s champion a safer, more just, and more inclusive society for all.
